Griselda

Although Sofia Vergara fans were hoping to see her new Netflix series make its premiere in fall 2023, the streaming service announced that the show had been pushed to 2024. That’s been a common occurrence throughout 2023, most especially with upcoming Netflix movies. We might have had to wait a bit longer for Griselda, but it finally made its premiere on Jan. 25, 2024.

Netflix revealed first look photos of the limited series in September 2023, also revealing that the release date of the crime drama had been pushed back to January 2024. Based on a true story, Griselda stars Emmy-nominee Vergara as the titular character, Griselda Blanco. The Colombian businesswoman became responsible for the creation of one of the most profitable cartels in history.

The limited series contains six episodes, which makes it an easy but thrilling binge-watch at the beginning of the new year. In the past year, there have been so many popular Netflix limited series, and Netflix has already gotten its first hit of 2024 with Griselda. Given Vergara’s status as an Emmy nominee for the ABC sitcom Modern Family, she’s sure to be getting some awards buzz.

While the limited series had previously been slated for a release on Netflix in fall 2023, it’s likely that the streaming service delayed the release to 2024 in the wake of the dual Hollywood strikes. Because of the actors’ strike, Vergara would not be able to promote the series or speak about it in any way, making the launch of a series with a huge star more sensible when the strikes ended.
