That ’90s Show season 2
After spending our first summer back in Point Place, Wisconsin with a new generation, we’re heading back to the basement for another — supersized! — season. That ’90s Show season 2 was picked up by Netflix in February 2023, less than a month after its premiere in January. In spite of some initially tepid reviews from critics, you can’t deny the power and pull of nostalgia.
Building on the first season’s 10 episodes, That ’90s Show season 2 will contain 16 episodes, which means the season could be split into two parts of eight episodes. (Netflix has not confirmed the release plans for season 2.) Although there’s a marked difference in viewership, it’s the first certified comedy hit Netflix has had in years, and one that the streamer needs.
The second season has been confirmed to take place again in the summertime, as Leia (Callie Haverda) spends another summer vacation with her grandparents, Red and Kitty, and her new friends. When we last left Leia in the first season’s finale, the 15-year-old found herself in the midst of some intriguing romantic entanglements that surely had some aftershocks in the wake of her departure back home to Chicago. But we’ll see what summer 1996 has in store for her!
Because the second season was ordered so quickly, that should have quickened the pace of production. Being a multi-cam sitcom, production doesn’t take very long as it is. The first season filmed from February to July 2022 for a release in January 2023. That ’90s Show season 2 was supposed to begin filming and wrap in 2023, but production was pushed to December 2023 due to the strikes. In February 2024, Netflix confirmed season 2 will arrive by summer 2024.
