May December

  • Director: Todd Haynes
  • Cast: Natalie Portman, Julianne Moore, and Charles Melton

May December is an upcoming drama film from Academy Award-nominated director Todd Haynes (Carol) based on a screenplay by Samy Burch. The film initially premiered at the 76th Cannes Film Festival this past May and will release in limited theaters on November 17 before coming to Netflix in December.

Oscar-winning actresses Julianne Moore and Natalie Portman are joined by Riverdale star Charles Melton, who is receiving acclaim for his performance in the movie. May December follows an up-and-coming actress preparing to take on her most demanding role yet, playing Gracie (Moore), an older woman who is half of a notable tabloid couple.

Gracie pursued Joe (Melton) many years ago and the sizable age gap in their relationship caused significant public scrutiny. Gracie actually spent time in priosn after the two were caught together.

Now, years later, a movie is being made about the relationship and Portman’s character, Elizabeth, will play Gracie in the movie. She travels to Georgia where Gracie and Joe are now married with two children to research the couple for the film. Elizabeth’s presence stirs up all kinds of uncomfortable feelings between the couple, particularly Joe, who has never fully dealt with his trauma regarding the relationship.

May December premieres on December 1.
