Pain Hustlers

  • Director: David Yates
  • Cast: Emily Blunt, Chris Evans, Catherine O’Hara, Chloe Coleman, Jay Duplass, Brian d’Arcy James, Amit Shah, Aubrey Dollar, Willie Raysor, and Andy García

Not be confused with the Netflix series Painkiller, the recent fictionalized retelling of the Sackler family and their creation of Purdue Pharma, Pain Hustlers is a new crime drama starring Chris Evans and Emily Blunt. Blunt plays a high school dropout that finds herself working at a pharmaceutical start-up in Florida and soon ends up in the middle of a criminal conspiracy.

Pain Hustlers does share some similarities to Painkiller. For starters, they’re both about opioids. But while Painkiller focused mainly on the Sacklers and the investigation into the family and Purdue, Pain Hustlers offers a very different perspective. Given how talented the cast is, it seems like this could be an exciting new drama.

Directed by David Yates (Harry Potter), Pain Hustlers is based on a screenplay from Wells Tower and based on the 2022 book of the same name by Evan Hughes. The movie is set to make its world premiere at the TIFF festival in September before coming to select theaters on October 20 and then debut on Netflix the following week.

Pain Hustlers premieres on October 27.
