Insidious: The Red Door gets disappointing Netflix release update
If you were hoping to watch Insidious: The Red Door on Netflix before summer ends, then we have some unfortunate news to share. While the movie is available to rent or buy digitally, and it will be released physically this September, we still don’t have a date for when the latest Insidious installment will land on Netflix.
The hit horror film, directed by star Patrick Wilson, did quite well at the box office despite mixed reviews. It ended up making $187.2 million on a $16 million budget, making it the highest-grossing horror movie of 2023, beating the much better-received M3GAN and Scream VI. It just goes to show that reviews really don’t always matter, especially if a franchise is already popular!
That said, it probably helps that Wilson has a loyal and dedicated fanbase thanks to starring in both the Insidious and The Conjuring franchises. Plus, Insidious: The Red Door also included the return of Ty Simpkins and Rose Byrne as Dalton and Renai Lambert, the son and ex-wife of Wilson’s character Josh Lambert. Lin Shaye also returns alongside a few other characters that haven’t been in an Insidious film since the second one in 2013.
Even though Sony and Netflix haven’t revealed when Insidious: The Red Door is coming to the streaming service yet, it was not included in the September line-up for Netflix.
Insidious: The Red Door Netflix release updates
The tricky thing with Sony/Netflix releases is we often don’t get much notice as to when Sony movies are going to arrive on Netflix. Netflix doesn’t always make formal announcements. But one clue is when an official page for the title actually shows up on the site.
Generally, at least a week or so before the Sony film comes to the service, you’ll notice a page for it on Netflix that allows users to hit “remind me” for when it finally arrives. There is no page for Insidious: The Red Door yet, indicating the film is not coming anytime soon.
It’s possible that it could be released at the end of September, but seems unlikely, especially since the movie was only released in theaters in July. It’s more likely that Insidious: The Red Door will come to Netflix by the end of October (maybe we’ll be lucky enough to get it before Halloween!) or November.
If you’re not willing to wait until the end of the year to watch Insidious: The Red Door on Netflix, you can check out the movie anytime on VOD platforms, or you can purchase a physical copy starting on September 26.
