As the end of August approaches, we’re starting to look ahead to the upcoming September releases on Netflix. But we still have one final weekend to enjoy this month, and there are several great Netflix movies worth watching, including a film starring Adam Sandler and his family, an Academy Award-winning movie from 2015, and a gripping true crime documentary.

In addition to the new content added this week, there are also some other notable films holding down the Netflix Top 10, like The Pope’s Exorcist, Despicable Me 1 and 2, River Wild, Keke Palmer’s 2015 drama Brotherly Love, Heart of Stone, and Bee Movie.

Here’s a curated list of Netflix movies you should consider watching (or skipping) this weekend!

Best Netflix movies to watch (or skip) this weekend

You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah

Watch! Adam Sandler’s daughter Sunny Sandler takes center stage in this sweet, hilarious, and heartwarming coming-of-age film perfect for family movie night. Sunny plays preteen Stacy Friedman, whose only goal is to have the perfect bat mitzvah alongside her best friend, Lydia. But when a boy comes between them, it threatens to ruin the special event for both of them. Can their friendship ever recover?

Sausage Party

Skip! Sausage Party is actually a pretty hilarious hard R adult animated comedy film from the minds of Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Ariel Shaffir, Jonah Hill, and Todd Demong. It follows a bunch of assorted food items living at a grocery store as they discover the horrific truth about what happens when food is purchased and taken home. Even though it got high praise from critics, the movie is still—no pun intended—an acquired taste and might not be for everyone.

The Big Short

Watch! The Big Short is an Academy Award-winning film about the lead-up to the 2007 housing crash. It’s a darkly comedic biographical drama featuring an all-star cast with actors like Ryan Gosling, Christian Bale, Steve Carrell, Marisa Tomei, Brad Pitt, Hamish Linklater, and more.

The film was praised for its script, which employs a unique narrative technique of breaking the fourth wall to have celebrity cameos like Margot Robbie, Selena Gomez, and Anthony Bourdain explain complex economic terms to the audience.

Killer Book Club

Skip! If you want to watch a new horror movie this weekend, then Killer Book Club might be a good choice, but unfortunately, this new teen slasher film is predictable and cliché. You’d be better off rewatching the Scream movies.

A Life Too Short: The Isabella Nardoni Case

Watch! Netflix’s latest true crime documentary highlights a disturbing Brazilian case about a five-year-old girl who fell from the sixth floor of her father’s apartment building. Determined to find justice, her mother embarks on a quest that garners national media attention.
