Santa Clarita Diet season 4

When Santa Clarita Diet was canceled after three seasons in April 2019, devoted fans of the zombie comedy were understandably upset. The series was one of the most underrated shows on Netflix, and perhaps one of the best. In many ways, it felt like the series was still getting started and still had much more gas in the tank for at least two more seasons.

Timothy Olyphant and Drew Barrymore teamed up for Santa Clarita Diet as an average married couple working as a real estate team. However, when Sheila (Barrymore) undergoes an unexpected change into a flesh-eating zombie, their quiet and boring existence is flipped on its head. Over the course of three seasons, the series explores the wild mythology behind Sheila’s change and what it means for their family moving forward.

First and foremost, Barrymore and Olyphant were excellent together. It was one of the most unexpected but incredible comedy couplings in modern history. And they just got better and better together with each passing season. Of course, Barrymore took a step back from acting after the show ended, instead launching her successful talk show and homeware line.

But if it hadn’t been canceled, Santa Clarita Diet could have further cemented itself as a cult classic. Sure, it’s still a cult favorite, but with the chance to complete its story and leave a legacy, it could have been even stronger. The series has an open-ended series finale that works as a wrap-up, but fans were still left wanting to know what happens next and what happens to the Hammonds.
