Leighton Meester is a talented actress best known for her scene-stealing role as Blair Waldorf in The CW teen drama series Gossip Girl. Besides Gossip Girl, Leighton is known for her music and for starring in movies like The Judge and Life Partners. She also starred in the short-lived (but beloved) ABC sitcom Single Parents.

The actress has been in the industry for a long time and thus has appeared in numerous films over the years. Fans might have watched her new movie River Wild, which landed on Netflix at the start of August 2023.

After checking out the thriller, you might want to watch other films in the actress’s filmography. But which ones are worth watching, and which ones can you skip?

Best Leighton Meester movies to watch (and skip)

River Wild

Watch! River Wild is Leighton Meester’s newest film, and one of the most exciting things about it is that she co-stars alongside her real-life husband, Adam Brody!

Meester’s Single Parents co-star Taran Killan is also in the movie. He and Meester play siblings preparing for an exciting whitewater river expedition. But when their childhood friend, played by Brody, tags along, things quickly take a turn for the worse. River Wild is a tense action-thriller that will keep you hooked. It’s available on Netflix right now!

That’s My Boy

Skip! Adam Sandler movies can be very hit or miss, and while this one features a great cast with Leighton Meester and Andy Samberg, it’s overall too cringe-inducing and childish to be very enjoyable. If you’re a big Sandler fan, this might be worth checking out, but it’s not one of Leighton’s best movies. For now, the only way to watch this one is to rent or buy it, as it’s not available on streaming.

Life Partners

Watch! Life Partners is a criminally underrated romantic comedy starring Leighton Meester and Gillian Jacobs as two long-time best friends. Adam Brody also stars in this movie, though he plays a love interest to Jacobs’ character rather than Meester’s.

Sasha (Jacobs) and Paige (Meester) have been through literally everything together, but when one of them starts considering getting into a serious long-term relationship, it threatens to change their friendship forever. Life Partners is now streaming on Hulu and Tubi.

The Weekend Away

Skip! Most Netflix thrillers tend to be forgettable, and The Weekend Away is no different. Leighton is great in this film, as always, but overall it’s just not very good.

However, if all you want is a fast-paced thriller starring Leighton Meester, this should fit the bill. The actress plays Beth, a young woman on vacation with her friend in Croatia. When her friend goes missing, it’s a race against the clock for Beth to figure out what happened. The Weekend Away is now on Netflix.

Country Strong

Watch! If you like shows like Nashville, then Country Strong should be right up your alley, especially if you’re a fan of Leighton Meester’s music. Gwyneth Paltrow stars as an emotionally unstable country superstar who tries to revive her career and finds herself romantically interested in a musician played by Garrett Hedlund.

Meester plays an up-and-coming beauty queen with the hopes of becoming a country star. Her character is sort of like the Juliette Barnes to Paltrow’s Rayna James if you want to stick to Nashville comparisons. I might be in the minority on this one, but I loved Country Strong and especially enjoyed the film’s catchy soundtrack. Sadly, it’s not streaming right now, so you’ll have to rent or buy it.

Honorable mentions

Besides the movies mentioned above, Leighton Meester has also starred in other films like Monte Carlo and The Roommate. Neither movie was acclaimed, but each one holds a special place for me as they were some of my earliest introductions to the actress. If you were a huge Gossip Girl fan, odds are you might have heard of these two films.

The Roommate is a Single White Female ripoff, and it’s not great, but it has a lot of teen actresses in it that make it an entertaining game of who’s who. Nina Dobrev, Danneel Ackles, Minka Kelly, and more are in this movie.

It’s perfect for anyone who has ever gotten Leighton and Minka confused! And Monte Carlo is a Disney-esque rom-com starring Leighton, Katie Cassidy, and Selena Gomez. It’s sweet and cheesy the way many early to mid-2000s teen rom-coms were and endearing because of it.

Unfortunately, neither Monte Carlo nor The Roommate are streaming, but you can rent or buy them.
