Miraculous: Ladybug & Cat Noir, The Movie

Watch! The highly-anticipated Ladybug & Cat Noir movie provides a fresh new take on the beloved animated franchise with stunning visuals and sleek action sequences.

The story at the heart of the film is rather simplistic, but there is plenty here for fans of the characters and television series to enjoy. Ladybug must team up with Cat Noir to save the city of Paris from the villainous Hawk Moth.

Hidden Strike

Skip! Jackie Chan and John Cena star in this unremarkable action-comedy film that apparently came out earlier this year to little fanfare. After watching it, I can see why. Hidden Strike was just added to Netflix in what amounts to a modern-day straight-to-DVD situation.

It’s a strange movie with bad CGI that underutilizes its star’s talents. Cena and Chan play soldiers who must herald a group of civilians through a gauntlet of gunfire. Even if you are in the mood for some mindless action, you’d be better off watching Extraction or another Netflix action movie.

Missing: The Lucie Blackman Case

Watch! Netflix’s latest true crime documentary is a UK film called Missing: The Lucie Blackman Case. Lucie Blackman was a 21-year-old airline stewardess from America who moved to Japan with a friend and got a hostess job in Tokyo. She went missing in July 2000, just a few weeks after moving there.

Her disappearance sparked an international investigation and led authorities to believe a serial criminal might have been at work. This doc is pretty standard fare for Netflix, a gripping retelling of a shocking case.

This piece was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, the movies being covered here wouldn’t exist.
