Netflix shows in danger of cancellation: Lockwood & Co.

On Jan. 27, Netflix released its latest young adult series of the sci-fi/fantasy variety with Lockwood & Co., which is based on the book series of the same name by Jonathan Stroud. Bridgerton alum Ruby Stokes stars in the series about a group of teenage ghost hunters taking down spirits at night in London.

Although the freshman series has reached the upper rungs of the top 10 shows ranking on Netflix, placement on such a ranking isn’t enough to land a renewal. Lockwood & Co. will have to perform super well within its first month of release to prove that it’s worth the investment. Likewise, completion rates have become increasingly important to Netflix, which (hopefully) shouldn’t be a problem for the eight-episode series.

In the past few months, Netflix has earned some deserving flack for canceling shows that people love for unexplained reasons that typically have to do with viewership. It’s becoming more and more difficult to trust that a show will defy the odds these days. Can Lockwood & Co. be the one to change the tides of YA genre shows?

Look, no one wants to see Lockwood & Co. canceled after only one season like so many Netflix shows before it, and we don’t want to see it get canceled either. But Netflix has been canceling a lot of young adult series lately, and a lot of underdog shows with passionate followings. The series could still be renewed, but given everything, we’d say the show is currently in danger of axing.

STATUS: Officially canceled
