Chris Hemsworth returns as Tyler Rake in the highly-anticipated sequel to the 2020 action film Extraction. Extraction 2 is just one of the big Netflix movies available this week.
Other Netflix movies you can check out the weekend of June 16 include Christopher Nolan’s war epic Dunkirk and the Adam Sandler film Funny People. But which of these movies should you prioritize, and which ones are okay to skip, at least for now?
In addition to the aforementioned films and the ones listed below, some of the other movies currently trending on Netflix are The Boss Baby, We’re the Millers, The Zookeeper, Missing, Mean Girls, Forever My Girl, The Choice, and The Kingdom.
Here are the Netflix movies you should consider watching (or skipping) this weekend.
Best Netflix movies to watch this weekend, June 16
Watch! With Oppenheimer coming to theaters soon, now is the perfect time to revisit Christopher Nolan’s Academy Award-winning historical war epic Dunkirk on Netflix. The film was previously on the streaming service before being removed, and now it’s back! Watch it before it’s gone again.
The movie follows the Dunkirk evacuation during World War II from multiple perspectives. It features an all-star cast that includes Barry Keoghan, Kenneth Branagh, Cillian Murphy, Mark Rylance, Tom Hardy, and more.
The Angry Birds Movie
Skip! Based on the popular game of the same name, this animated movie struggles to turn its simple premise into a feature-length film. Kids might enjoy the colorful characters and silly antics, but overall The Angry Birds Movie has a hard time justifying its existence.
Watch! Chris Hemsworth is back as Tyler Rake after defying all odds in the first film and seemingly rising from the dead. The Australian mercenary embarks on a new action-packed adventure where he’ll face off against a deadly Georgian gangster to recuse a family in captivity.
Extraction 2 promises to be bigger, and if you’re a Hemsworth fan, you’ll want to check this one out because it’s likely the last time we’ll see the actor on-screen for a while as he plans to take a break.
Skip! The main problem with Funny People is that it is way too long for its own good. There is no universe where this film needs to be 2 hours and 26 minutes long. That said, it does have a great cast. If you’re a fan of Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, and Leslie Mann, you might want to give this 2009 comedy movie a chance.
Watch! Saoirse Ronan stars as Hanna, a 16-year-old assassin sent on a mission in Europe as she dodges attacks sent by the ruthless Marissa (Cate Blanchett), an operative who used to work with Hanna’s father. The 2011 movie even spawned a television series on Prime Video. Unfortunately, you can’t watch the show on Netflix, but the movie is streaming now.
