Pretty Smart shouldn’t have been canceled on a cliffhanger

Recently, there’s been a trend with certain Netflix original series where the streamer seems to just ghost us. For months after the premiere of the new show, there’s no word on whether there will be another season, and then comes the eventual out-of-the-blue cancellation announcement.

That’s exactly what happened with the Netflix original sitcom Pretty Smart starring Hannah Montana and Young & Hungry alum Emily Osment. The series about mismatched sisters living together premiered in October 2021 and wasn’t officially canceled until April 2022.

It’s not that we didn’t see the cancellation coming. The series wasn’t a critical hit and didn’t make a huge impact with viewers. But we’d hoped that Netflix would take a chance on the charming sitcom and bring it back, if not to resolve the huge season-ending cliffhanger.

Instead, Pretty Smart will forever be left unresolved with 10 underrated episodes, and fans of the series will always wonder if Chelsea ended up with Grant or if he decided to get back together with Claire. Even though it’s a great ending for a season, it’s a terrible ending for a series. And for that reason, it’s one of the best but worst Netflix series endings of all time.
