After a wild start to the final season with season 4 part 1 last year, Manifest season 4 part 2 has finally arrived to answer all of our burning questions. Just how was it all connected, and do the passengers survive the Death Date? We get all of these answers and more!

In the last 10 episodes of the final season, most of the passengers are placed in a detention center by the Registry, as hinted at in the final moments of part 1. Of course, this greatly impacts their ability to solve Callings and save the world, putting them in further danger of death.

While various characters don’t make it out of the season — and therefore series — alive, was Cal one of the characters we had to mourn? We nearly lost him in the first half of the season, surely causing Manifesters to worry about his fate in the final episodes. Here’s what happened to Cal!

WARNING: Spoilers ahead from Manifest season 4 part 2!

Does Cal die in Manifest season 4 part 2?

Let’s cut to the chase: No, Cal doesn’t die in Manifest season 4 part 2. However, the explanation as to what happens to him in the final episodes and series finale is much more complicated, and some fans might need a bit more detail. Here we go…

In the second half of the season, Cal discovers he’s the only passenger still able to receive Callings. He doesn’t just receive Callings… he receives all of them. Projecting onto the plane to see each individual passenger’s Callings takes a great toll on him physically and mentally.

By the penultimate episode, Cal knows that he must connect his sapphire with another, leading them to the fissure where Saanvi dumped the fragment of Noah’s Ark, which contained sapphire. Somehow, he knows he’ll know what he needs to do, and he does. He stands on the fissure and the sapphires connect. During the interaction, Cal disappears in a vibrant blue glow. It’s the last time we see Ty Doran as Cal in the series.

Up until this point, it’s assumed that Cal needed to sacrifice himself in order to save the passengers and the world, but the ending provides quite the kicker. After the passengers battle their final judgment and a shadow monsters back aboard Flight 828, they exit the plane back in 2013, complete with their memories of the five years they spent saving the world.

Even though Cal doesn’t immediately get off the plane with the rest of the passengers, he comes running off the plane, looking like his younger self from when they boarded the flight. (There’s some interesting CGI work to make a stand-in actor look like Jack Messina from the pilot episode of the series.) However, Cal doesn’t have his memories from the past five years. Still, he’s very much alive.
