Reality television shows based on survival have always been very popular, but we’ve certainly seen a rise in them recently. Netflix previously released Outlast, which saw notorious “lone wolf” competitors compete for $1 million in the frigid Alaskan wilderness, with the twist being that they had to work on a team. The newest “survival” show is Siren: Survive the Island, a South Korean series featuring 24 female castmates who work as bodyguards, soldiers, police, stunt performers, and more.

Siren: Survive the Island is comparable to another Netflix hit, Physical: 100, which featured 100 contestants competing in grueling physical competitions. But the difference is that in Siren, the women were taken to a remote island and given the goal of claiming other teams’ bases while protecting their own.

Each contestant also has a personal flag they need to protect, or else they will be benched and leave their team short a teammate. There are six teams comprised of four members each, and the teams are split by profession.

Given the nature of the show and the island background, many viewers are wondering about where exactly this series was filmed.

Siren: Survive the Island filming locations

According to National World and Netflix, Siren: Survive the Island was filmed on one of the small, unnamed islands in South Korea. There are more than 3,000 islands in the area, many uninhabited and formed by volcanic activity.

Production utilized the natural landscape on the island to create unique challenges and obstacles, build the bases, and more. They also constructed sets and the giant Roman-inspired stadium that serves as a centerpiece on the show. Despite filming on an island, it appears the landscape had a variety of natural settings to choose from, as the show features a variety of different backdrops for the various bases.

Siren: Survive the Island is now streaming on Netflix.
