May December plot synopsis

May December focuses on the relationship between a former teacher, Gracie Atherton-Yoo (Julianne Moore), and her husband, Joe Yoo (Charles Melton). Gracie seduced Joe in school while he was underage. Their drastic age difference caught media attention, and Gracie eventually served jail time.

Twenty years later, Joe and Gracie are married and have twin children. Now, Hollywood is spinning their tabloid-made story into a movie starring actress Elizabeth Berry (Natalie Portman). Elizabeth travels to the Atherton-Yoo household to study Gracie, who she’ll portray in the film, and learn more about their relationship. As she begins digging into it, Joe must grapple with what happened to him all those years ago.

The story is loosely based on the real-life story of Mary Kay Letourneau and Vili Fualaau.
