Is Missing on Netflix a true story?
Though the story in Missing seems similar to true crime cases we see in the news and explored in Netflix documentaries, the movie is completely fictional. The screenplay was written by Will Merrick and Nick Johnson from a story created by Sev Ohanian and Aneesh Chaganty.
Missing is part of an anthology movie series, serving as a standalone sequel to the 2018 movie Searching. That one is also completely fictional and not rooted in a true story. These both are part of the same world as 2020’s Run, with references included in the 2023 movie.
If you finish watching Missing and are looking for thrillers that are based on true stories on Netflix, we’d recommend checking out Captain Phillips, The Good Nurse, and Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.
