Black Knight parents guide: What you should know before watching
By Mads Lennon
The highly-anticipated new dystopian sci-fi series Black Knight just released on Netflix, and it’s likely to become one of the streamer’s next big international hits. Based on the webtoon created by Lee Yoon-gyun, Black Knight is a thought-provoking show set in a post-apocalyptic Seoul 40 years after a comet strikes the earth, leaving oxygen scarce due to air pollution.
After the comet strike, only a limited number of survivors are left behind. The remaining humans have had to scavenge to survive as a brutal new social hierarchy evolves, dividing people into different districts where only a select few are given the necessary resources to survive. Amid the order, are a group of “deliverymen” who are tasked with the dangerous duty of delivering oxygen and other resources to the various districts.
If you’re considering starting Black Knight this weekend, here’s what you should know about the show’s content and age rating.

Black Knight is rated TV-MA for smoking and violence.
Netflix Black Knight parents guide
Netflix’s latest South Korean thriller is not suitable for young viewers. The show is rated TV-MA, the television equivalent of an R rating. While there isn’t any nudity or heavy sexual content in the series, it’s very violent. Most episodes feature fighting, guns, and graphic death scenes.
There are headshots and visible blood throughout the show. Not only that, but the concept of a dystopian society where people must scavenge for oxygen might be confusing or frightening to young audiences. TV-MA generally means that people under 17 should not view a series, but parents can use their discretion to decide.
Teenagers might be a little more equipped to handle the mature content in Black Knight, as the show isn’t as gratuitous as series like All of Us Are Dead or Squid Game.
