What happened to Brimsley’s boyfriend (Reynolds) in Queen Charlotte?

Now that Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is streaming on Netflix, people are quickly making their way through the six-part series. While the period drama wraps up most of the storylines nicely at the end of the season, there’s one question left on everyone’s mind. What happened to Reynolds (Freddie Dennis)?

Spoilers from Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story ahead. 

Reynolds is King George’s right-hand man. He’s very loyal and protective of the King. Initially, he and Princess Augusta were the only ones who knew of George’s struggle with mental illness. He vowed to keep George’s secret hidden from Charlotte and would scold any footmen who were gossiping about the King.

Besides serving King George, he had a secret relationship with Brimsley, Queen Charlotte’s right-hand man. Although they would argue from time to time, their arguments would never be about their relationship. Instead, they would always involve the King and Queen. In fact, they even talked about spending the rest of their lives together. But all this happened in the past timeline (1761). Reynolds doesn’t appear in the present timeline (1817) at all. Why is that? Here’s what we know.

What happened to Reynolds in Queen Charlotte?

Honestly, it’s unclear what happened to Reynolds because the show never addresses it. The last time we see Reynolds is when he dances with Brimsley at the ball in the season finale. And they seemed happily in love.

As we mentioned earlier, Reynolds isn’t in the present timeline. We only see an older Brimsley who is still serving Queen Charlotte. Queen Charlotte even asks Brimsley if he’s ever been married, and he tells her no. And it looks like Brimsley is single in the present timeline because there’s a scene where he dances alone by himself outside, pretending as if he is dancing with another person.

Although the show doesn’t tell us what happened to Reynolds, our guess is that he just passed away. However, I find it strange that Brimsley didn’t mention him at least once in the present. Hopefully, Shonda Rhimes (creator of Queen Charlotte) will reveal in an interview why she chose not to address Reynolds’s absence in the present timeline. But for now, we’ll just have to believe that he died.
