A new chapter of the sprawling Bridgerton story has now landed on Netflix. Queen Charlotte, a limited prequel series, centers on the ton’s queen and gives fans the backstory on her rise to royalty and her love story with King George III.

India Amarteifio stars in the series as the young Queen Charlotte, and Golda Rosheuvel reprises her role from the original series. We might not be spending time with anyone with the last name Bridgerton (apart from Violet), but it’s just as lovable and captivating of a romance.

But does the prequel series share another thing in common with the series it’s connected to? That thing being sex and nudity. The romantic drama has become known for some of its steamier elements. Here’s the age rating and parents guide for its highly anticipated prequel!

WARNING: Minor plot details ahead from Queen Charlotte.

What is Queen Charlotte’s age rating?

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story has been rated TV-MA for nudity, sex, and smoking. Because of this rating, the series isn’t appropriate for children to watch as it’s been designated as for mature audiences. While it may not be super explicit, it’s not safe for younger viewers.

In addition to nudity, sex, and smoking, the series also includes some scenes that might be visually frightening for some viewers. King George’s treatment involves methods that appear as torture, such as drowning, burning, and other means that are difficult to watch.

Is there sex and nudity in Queen Charlotte?

Yes, just like in the proper Bridgerton series, the prequel also features a decent amount of sex and nudity. There are a number of sex scenes between Queen Charlotte and King George as they get to know each other in their marriage and attempt to conceive an heir. There are also lots of sex scenes between Lord and Lady Danbury, though those are mostly uncomfortable to watch.

As for the nudity, the vast majority of the nudity in the series is male rear nudity from Corey Mylchreest as King George. He’s naked in various scenes throughout the six-episode season, in both sex scenes and other scenes in which King George is undressed. There isn’t any graphic nudity or female nudity featured in the series.
