We’re still a long way off from Stranger Things season 5, but some small tidbits have been leaking out here and there in recent months, some from the writers themselves and others from cast members.

During a recent fan convention in Holland during the weekend of April 29 and 30, actress Grace Van Dien, who played Chrissy (RIP) in Stranger Things season 4, said something during a panel that got fans on social media all riled up. The actress was asked if she planned to watch the final season when it releases or if she’s over it now after having appeared in season 4.

Grace said that she heard “someone important” is going to die in the show’s upcoming fifth season. Her matter-of-fact response drew quite a surprised reaction from the crowd, some who claimed that it was kind of a spoiler. Grace said it wasn’t because the fact someone big is dying is “public” knowledge and already out there.

A fan shared a clip of the panel via Twitter, and you can watch it here.

It’s interesting because we haven’t really heard confirmation that characters will be dying in Stranger Things season 5, but it also wouldn’t be all that surprising. It’s a little strange that people are freaked out about Grace’s rather innocuous comment considering Stranger Things has killed characters off every season, with Eddie Munson’s death in season 4 being perhaps one of the most tragic of the whole show.

The fact Grace specified “someone important” is probably what has most people concerned, since that seems to point toward one of the kids, like Eleven, Mike, Dustin, Max, Will, or Lucas. Max already came close to death at the end of season 4, is it possible she won’t make it after all? Or what if the writers end up killing Steve off like they planned to back in season 1 (they better not!) Many have been speculating on his death since he told Nancy his dream of having six little nuggets.

There’s also Eleven, who could go out in a big heroic sacrifice, though personally I think that would be really cliché and I hope the Duffers don’t go in that direction. I also think Hopper is an unlikely choice since they already did a big Hopper fake-out death. It wouldn’t pack the same punch.

All in all, I might be in the minority of people who doesn’t want any of the main characters to die. There are plenty of TV shows out there that kill people off, and it would be nice if Stranger Things season 5 actually went against the grain and let everyone get a happy ending for once!

I mean how many shows in recent years ended with a shock-value death that soured everyone on the show? Killing Eve? The Teen Wolf movie? Supernatural? Game of Thrones? The Vampire Diaries? It’s getting old. Give these kids a break!

On a more positive note, Grace and the panelist also confirmed that Stranger Things will begin filming soon, although it remains to be seen if the writer’s strike will effect the start date.
