3 best Netflix movies to watch (and 2 to skip) this weekend, April 28
By Mads Lennon
Can you believe that it is already the last week of April 2023? It feels like this month has flown by. On May 1, Netflix will be adding tons of older movies to its catalog, but in the meantime, we’ve created a list of Netflix movies you should check out this week.
None of the films on this list are actually Netflix Originals, but all of the entries are either new movies or movies that are about to expire from the platform. Make sure you know which films to prioritize this weekend so you can spend time watching the best of the films set to leave soon, such as Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Road to Perdition.
Best Netflix movies to watch (and skip) this weekend
Keep reading to discover which movies you’ll want to watch this weekend and which ones you’re better off skipping.
The Hateful Eight
Watch! Quentin Tarantino fans who missed out on this 2015 western when it was released in theaters will want to take advantage of the fact it is now on Netflix (along with the extended version!). This action-packed film has all of the flair and style we’ve come to expect from a Tarantino film and a fantastic cast to round it all out.
Set in post-Civil War Wyoming, The Hateful Eight follows a bounty hunter and his prisoner as they try to find shelter and encounter a group on a stopover. The eight travelers soon realize they might not make it to their destination.
Empire State
Skip! With a cast that includes Dwayne Johnson, Liam Hemsworth, and Emma Roberts, you’d think Empire State would end up being a fun way to pass 90 minutes, but sadly this action thriller is very bland and predictable. There are way better action movies on Netflix to watch this weekend.
Road to Perdition
Watch! Like several movies included on this list, Road to Perdition is set to leave Netflix on April 30, so now is the time to watch Road to Perdition if you haven’t gotten around to it yet. Sam Mendes directs this moving crime drama starring Tom Hanks, Paul Newman, and Jude Law.
Den of Thieves
Skip! This Gerard Butler-led film isn’t the worst crime drama out there, but better options are available. Plus, this movie tends to stream on various services regularly, so it’s not much of a loss even if you don’t get to it before it leaves on May 1.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
Watch! Netflix recently revealed that it was making a new anime sequel series to the live-action film, and the entire original cast is set to return and reprise their roles. The last day to watch this movie on Netflix is Sunday, April 30, so watch it now before it’s gone!
