What is One Piece about?

Netflix’s One Piece is based on the manga series of the same name created by Eiichiro Oda, who wrote and illustrated the manga. The series tells the story of Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates. Luffy is on a quest to become King of the Pirates and find the treasure known as One Piece.

There are more than 100 volumes of the manga, which is still running. Who knows how long the series will last?

Many of the volumes and chapters have been for the One Piece anime series, which is one of the most popular anime series in the world. There are currently more than 1,000 episodes of the One Piece anime, and hundreds of the episodes are streaming on Netflix right now.

Check out the official synopsis for the Netflix adaptation here:

"Based on Japan’s highest-selling manga series in history by Eiichiro Oda, ONE PIECE is a legendary high-seas adventure unlike any other. Monkey D. Luffy is a young adventurer who has longed for a life of freedom since he can remember. Luffy sets off from his small village on a perilous journey to find the legendary fabled treasure, ONE PIECE, to become King of the Pirates! But in order to find the ultimate prize, Luffy will need to assemble the crew he’s always wanted before finding a ship to sail, searching every inch of the vast blue seas, outpacing the Marines, and outwitting dangerous rivals at every turn."
