Netflix announced the Never Have I Ever season 4 release date and shared another look at the final season of the Netflix original series. Never Have I Ever season 4 is coming to Netflix this summer, just like we thought it would. We shared everything you need to know about the new season below.

The third and penultimate season of Never Have I Ever arrived on Netflix on Aug. 12 and ushers the hit teen romantic comedy series into its final act. Following season 3’s romantic ups and downs, fans will be wondering about when they can see Never Have I Ever season 4.

In the latest season of the series, Devi and Paxton make their debut as a couple, but as Devi continues to grapple with the loss of her father and comes out on the other side of her grief, she makes other moves that might be surprising to her friends and family.

Never Have I Ever season 4 is coming to Netflix on June 8, 2023. Netflix announced the news via teaser trailer in April.

On May 9, 2023, the streaming service unveiled the official trailer the final season, and the clip answered some questions fans have about Devi’s senior year. Check out the trailer in the video below!

Right away, the trailer answers a lingering question about what happened after Devi seemingly cashed in her “one free boink” coupon with Ben. Well, the trailer reveals they followed through will sleeping together… and it’s awkward after!

The trailer also teases Paxton’s return to Sherman Oaks High (in a suit!) and Michael Cimino’s arrival as the new heartthrob in school. Devi seemingly sets her sights on Cimino’s character, though sparks are still flying between her and Paxton… and her and Ben. What will happen?! It’s sure to be a thrilling and exciting final season full of laughs and twists.

Production on the final season of Never Have I Ever began sometime in spring 2022, as co-creator Mindy Kaling shared an Instagram post in April teasing the writing process. Filming for the half-hour comedy generally takes around four months.

Being so, the timeframe tracks with leading star Maitreyi Ramakrishnan’s announcement on Aug. 3 that filming had wrapped on Never Have I Ever season 4. It’s bittersweet that filming has wrapped on the series for good, but we can’t wait to see what’s in store for the endgame!

Why Never Have I Ever season 4 is the final season

As much as we would love Devi’s coming-of-age story to continue past high school, that’s not in the cards for the teen romantic comedy series. Mindy Kaling, the co-creator of Never Have I Ever, opened up about the decision to end the show after four seasons.

"“Four seasons for a high school show felt like it made sense. They can’t be in high school forever. We’ve seen those shows. Like, you’ve been in high school for 12 years. What is going on here? Also, the actors get older and it starts looking insane that a 34-year-old is playing a 15-year-old.”"

Kaling and the writing team appear to want to keep Never Have I Ever a self-contained story about a specific time in the lives of Devi and her friends. At its center, it’s about a teenage girl navigating her grief in the wake of her father’s day while also coming into her culture, identity, and sexuality. Keeping that going beyond the confines of high school could defeat the purpose.

Still, we’ll remain hopeful that season 4 won’t be the last we see of this particular universe and keep our fingers crossed for a potential spin-off or some sort of return to Devi’s life in the near to distant future. We need just a little glimpse of Devi in college, right?

Never Have I Ever isn’t expected to have any casting shakeups leading into its final season, with the main cast returning for season 4. Here’s the main cast of the series:

Ahead of the fourth season, Netflix announced that Love, Victor star Michael Cimino will join the final season in a recurring role as a new heartthrob named Ethan. He’s sure to catch Devi’s eye and cause further complications in her chaotic love life.

According to People, Anirudh Pisharody will not be returning for season 4.

Never Have I Ever season 3 spoilers

In the season 3 finale, Devi once again had another major decision to make. However, this time around, she wasn’t deciding between Ben and Paxton; she was choosing whether to attend the Shrubland School in Colorado or stay in Sherman Oaks for her senior year.

Although she initially falls in love with the idea of attending the challenging school, but she ultimately realizes she isn’t ready to leave her mother. Because she wishes she had more time with her father before his death, she wants to soak up as much time as she can — time that she can’t get back — with her mom. Also, who could break up Devi, Eleanor, and Fabiola?!

Never Have I Ever season 3 also sees the end of Devi’s relationship with Paxton and Des, both of which seemed to end prematurely albeit amicably. But in the closing moments of the season, Devi makes the shocking choice to cash in her “one free boink” coupon with Ben. Will the enemies-to-(maybe)-lovers be an item in season 4? We’ll have to wait and see!
