Why isn’t The Night Agent season 2 coming until 2024?

Don’t you just love early renewals? On March 29, only a week after its release, The Night Agent was renewed for a second season at Netflix. This means we get to see Peter Sutherland embark on yet another wild adventure, but this time as a night agent working directly under the president. The stakes will definitely be higher, and Peter is bound to run into some trouble with his new position in The Night Agent season 2. It’s going to be interesting to see how everything works out, and we can’t wait to see what’s next for Peter and Rose.

But sadly, we won’t be seeing the highly anticipated second season any time soon. When Netflix announced the show’s renewal, the streaming giant revealed that the second season would arrive on Netflix sometime in 2024.

Even though it would’ve been nice to see more episodes of The Night Agent by the end of 2023, that’s just not the case. However, this isn’t necessarily surprising. Why isn’t The Night Agent season 2 coming until 2024?

The main reason why we won’t be seeing The Night Agent season 2 this year is because it needs to be filmed and edited. And although the show’s creator Shawn Ryan has ideas for the second season, this doesn’t mean scripts have already been written. There has to be a set time for script writing before production can start.

Principal photography on the first season started in February 2022 and ended sometime in June of that year. This means it took four months to film season 1. But it took nine months for the show to land on Netflix.

Netflix shows typically follow the same production and post-production schedules with every new season unless there are delays or an increase/decrease in episodes. Since the second season will have 10 episodes like the first season and there aren’t any foreseeable delays, The Night Agent season 2 will likely take the same amount of time to be filmed and edited as the first season. That being said, the new episodes won’t be ready for viewing in 2023.

Let’s say The Night Agent season 2 finished filming and editing this year, even though we know this is basically impossible. The brand new season still wouldn’t come out in 2023. The reason being that Netflix rarely releases two new seasons of a show in the same year. The streaming giant likes to space out its shows’ seasons by at least a year.
