If you can’t get enough of shows and movies like Fifty Shades of Grey, 365 Days, and Sex/Life, then Netflix’s upcoming erotic British thriller series Obsession, starring Richard Armitage, should be right up your alley. Netflix’s Obsession is based on the novel Damage by Josephine Hart and follows a scandalous affair between a surgeon and his son’s fiancée.

Similar to the other titles referenced above, Obsession will be rated TV-MA for nudity, sex, language, and smoking. It’s definitely a show for adults, so I wouldn’t recommend checking into this series while you have any kids around.

The sultry series is coming to Netflix this April. Keep reading to find out everything we know about Obsession, including cast and plot details!

Netflix Obsession cast

Richard Armitage is the male lead in Obsession. Netflix fans have been seeing him a lot lately, between Harlan Coben projects like Stay Close and The Stranger. He also starred in the Netflix film Brain on Fire and lends his voice to Castlevania. Outside of Netflix, Armitage is best known for playing Thorin in The Hobbit films.

He’s joined by Irish actress Charlie Murphy, star of The Last Kingdom, Peaky Blinders, and The Capture. The acclaimed actress Indira Varma is also part of the cast. Varma portrayed Ellaria Sand on Game of Thrones and has also appeared in series like Luther, Rome, and Human Target. Last but certainly not least, the other leading actress in the series is Do Revenge alum Rish Shah, who also recently appeared in the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel.

Netflix Obsession series teaser

Netflix has not released the official trailer for Obsession yet, but star Richard Armitage recently shared a short teaser of the steamy new series on his Instagram. It includes everything you could want from a series like this one, including passionate kisses, blindfolds, someone being tied up, and more. Check it out right here. Armitage says the full-length trailer is coming soon!

The trailer was released on March 29.

Netflix Obsession release date

Obsession will be released on Thursday, April 13, 2023.

How many episodes is Netflix Obsession?

There are some conflicting reports about the show’s episode count. Some sources are saying there are four episodes, while others say three. Obsession will be three to four hours in length, and it’s a miniseries.

What is Netflix Obsession about?

The official logline for the new series is as follows:

"A respected London surgeon’s affair with his son’s fiancée turns into an erotic infatuation that threatens to change their lives forever."

Is Netflix Obsession based on a book?

Yes! As mentioned above, Netflix is based on the 1991 novel Damage by Josephine Hart. The book followed a British politician caught up in an appropriate relationship, which is changed slightly in the new adaptation as the main character is a surgeon this time around. Hart’s novel was previously adapted into a 1992 movie and an opera.
