Black Mirror is a dark sci-fi drama series that takes a vivid look at the dark side of technology eerily, focusing on the escalation and paranoia that comes with every game-changing innovation.

The Netflix series offers plenty of chilling tales of what the future could hold, making subscribers question everything from their cell phones to their social media profiles. After five well-crafted seasons and an exceptional interactive feature, fans everywhere have been wondering when Black Mirror season 6 will arrive.

When is Black Mirror season 6 released on Netflix?

On May 31, Netflix announced the Black Mirror season 6 release date. The full season will be released on Thursday, June 15.

On April 26, Netflix officially announced that Black Mirror season 6 will be released in June 2023. The streamer didn’t reveal the exact day that the highly anticipated new season will drop, but fans can rest assured knowing more episodes are coming this summer!

Black Mirror season 6 was ordered in May 2022

Black Mirror season 5 hit Netflix in June 2019 and we hadn’t heard much about the show continuing since. However, as of May 2022, we knew that Black Mirror season 6 was in the works!

Variety reported on May 16, 2022 that Black Mirror is returning for a sixth season. As fans of the show know, the anthology series features different actors every season, with some appearing in multiple episodes and others showing up for just a scene or two.

Due to the less-than-ideal circumstances the world had been experiencing the past couple of years, specifically the COVID-19 pandemic, we feared the show might have ended. Radio Times discussed the chances of Black Mirror season 6 with series creator Charlie Brooker in 2020, and he seemed open to the idea, but not anytime soon:

"“I’ve been busy, doing things. I don’t know what I can say about what I’m doing and not doing. At the moment, I don’t know what stomach there would be for stories about societies falling apart, so I’m not working away on one of those. I’m sort of keen to revisit my comic skill set, so I’ve been writing scripts aimed at making myself laugh.”"

In August 2022, it was announced that Rory Culkin (Scream 4), Salma Hayek Pinault, and Annie Murphy had also been added to the cast. Since this is an anthology show, we expect the cast to be pretty big, so hopefully, we’ll learn about more exciting additions in the months to come.

When was Black Mirror season 6 filmed?

Filming on Black Mirror season 6 took place in the summer of 2022. At the Bullet Train premiere, Zazie Beetz revealed that she had actually finished shooting her episode in June. Obviously, she couldn’t reveal much about it, but when asked if it was fun, she said:

"“I wouldn’t say my character is having a lot of fun, but…I think there’s a really great tongue-in-cheek dark element to it, premonition kind of element. The mirror reflecting back on us.”"

Black Mirror season 6 episode details

According to Variety, Black Mirror season 6 will have more episodes than season 5, with the latter having only three. Each episode of season 5 was pretty long, with all of them running over 60 minutes. The new season is also set to be “even more cinematic in scope, with each [installment] being treated as an individual film.” At this time, it’s been reported that there will be at least five episodes.

What’s on Netflix reports that these are the episode titles for season 6:

  • Episode 1: “Demon 79”
  • Episode 2: “Mazey Day”
  • Episode 3: “Beyond the Sea”
  • Episode 4: “Loch Henry”
  • Episode 5: “Joan is Awful”

On May 11, Entertainment Weekly released summaries of each episode and details on the cast of each new installment.

Who has been in the Black Mirror cast before?

The series has never had issues in the past pulling in top-tier talent, and it’s hard to find a great episode that doesn’t have a talented player bringing the harrowing story to life.

Some of the actors who have made up the cast of some of Black Mirror’s finest iterations include Jon Hamm, Hayley Atwell, Domnhall Gleeson, Mackenzie Davis, Bryce Dallas Howard, Daniel Kaluuya, Toby Krebell, Kelly Macdonald, Jesse Plemons, Andrea Riseborough, Letitia Wright just to name a few. The last season of Black Mirror Netflix put out had some of its biggest A-listers to date, including Miley Cyrus, Anthony Mackie, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Andrew Scott.

Will Black Mirror season 6 be interactive?

Netflix has not yet released the Black Mirror season 6 synopsis yet. But there is the option of doing another interactive program like Black Mirror: Bandersnatch. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Brooker discussed doing another choose-your-own-adventure project.

"“By the end I was saying, ‘Oh I’ve got an idea’. It’s definitely something I would do again and I think there are lots of ways to tackle it. The biggest challenge is narratively. It would have to justify being interactive otherwise, why put yourself through that?"
