Given its subject matter and inclusion of graphic sexual violence, Blonde has courted significant criticism from the outset. However, De Armas has mostly been universally praised as one of the movie’s high points. Still, she faced stiff competition at this year’s Oscars, with Cate Blanchett and Michelle Yeoh considered the frontrunners for their performances in Tár and Everything Everywhere All at Once, respectively.

Instead, the award went to frontrunner Michelle Yeoh. It’s a long overdue award for an actress that has delivered countless exceptional performances throughout the decades. Everything Everywhere All at Once was a great movie and Yeoh certainly deserved the win.
