James Cameron’s highly-anticipated Avatar sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, hit theaters on Dec. 16, 2022, and has been a huge success. The film crossed $2 billion at the box office in January and is currently the third highest-grossing movie of all time globally, right after the original movie and Avengers: Endgame.

Jake Sully returns in the new movie, now living with his newfound family on Pandora. But when an ancient threat rears its ugly head, Jake must help the Na’vi defend their home.  Besides Sam Worthington, who reprises his role as Jake, the film also stars Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, and Joel David Moore.

Given the hype surrounding this movie, it’s not surprising that many people are likely eager to find out how they can watch it at home. Especially now that it’s nominated for multiple Academy Awards, including Best Picture. Will the sequel come to Netflix after theaters?

Will Avatar: The Way of Water ever be on Netflix?

Since Avatar: The Way of Water is distributed by 20th Century Studios, it’s unlikely that the film will come to Netflix. Disney owns 20th Century Studios and generally puts all its content on Disney+ or Hulu. The first Avatar is currently streaming on Disney+, so we can assume the sequel will be added to the service.

Where will Avatar: The Way of Water stream?

The sci-fi epic is probably going to stream on the Disney+ app at some point in 2023. It’s hard to say exactly when the movie will come to the app since it can vary depending on how successful a film is in theaters. Usually, it takes several months to transition from the cinema to the streamer.

It was recently confirmed that the sequel will be heading to VOD on March 28, 2023, giving people the opportunity to purchase or rent the movie. At this time, we’re still waiting on the Disney+ release date.
