There’s so many great movies and shows that are adaptations of novels. Is that the case with the dramedy? We’ve got the answer for you below!

Is the movie This Is Where I Leave You based on a book?

Yes! This Is Where I Leave You is based on a book. The film is an adaptation of the 2009 novel of the same name by author Jonathan Tropper. Plus, you know this story brought from page to screen did the author’s tale justice because he’s the one who wrote the movie’s script!

According to Goodreads, when the Foxman patriarch passes away that’s the first time the four children come together at the same time in years, as each has been busy with their own lives. The news of his father comes at the worst time for Judd Foxman, who finds out his wife, Jen, has been having an affair with his boss recently.

But Judd, his siblings, and mother will all finally be under one roof as they sit Shiva, the seven-day mourning period in Judaism. The week sees “longstanding grudges resurface,” secrets brought to light, and old passions “reawakened,” per the book’s synopsis. And as for the biggest plot twist — Jen finds out she’s pregnant. But who is the father?

If you’d like to read the book, you can purchase a physical or digital copy on Amazon or Barnes & Noble. Check out the trailer below if you haven’t watched the movie yet, but are interested to learn more about the story’s adaptation.
