It is no secret and we can’t deny that one of the best directors in the industry is Mr. Guillermo del Toro! The filmmaker is such a talent and has brought so many great projects to life, including the computer-animated Trollhunters series and the movie Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio on Netflix!

So it really is no surprise that the film has been nominated for an Oscar this year! The production snagged a spot in the Best Animated Feature Film category. The ceremony airs live Sunday, March 12, 2023 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

So is this the filmmaker’s first Academy Award nomination? Has he taken home a golden statuette before? We’ve got the answer for you below!

How many Oscars has Guillermo del Toro won?

The answer to that question is, yes! Del Toro has actually won not once, but twice in the same year. He was recognized for the 2017 film The Shape of Water, taking home Best Director and Best Picture wins.

Though he’s won twice, that doesn’t mean the filmmaker hasn’t been nominated more times. Including the above wins, as well as this year’s recognition for Pinocchio, the director has been nominated a total of seven times over the years. Some of those include in 2006 for Pan’s Labyrinth and Nightmare Alley for Best Picture in 2022.

Del Toro’s nom isn’t the only one for Netflix! The streamer has the potential to win in a total of 16 nominations. Nine of those are for All Quiet on the Western Front starring Felix Kammerer and Albrecht Schuch, Ana de Armas for her role in Blonde, and The Martha Mitchell Effect for Best Documentary Short Film.

The Oscars air Sunday, March 12, 2023 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. A full list of this year’s nominees can be found on the Academy Awards website.
