How much longer do we have to wait until Bridgerton season 3 arrives on Netflix? Unfortunately, Netflix has not announced the release date for the third season yet, but it’s expected to come out by the end of 2023. In the meantime, we’ve decided to rewatch the first two seasons to prepare for the third season’s release. While watching previous seasons, we were reminded of some of the characters who left the show. While some of these Bridgerton characters we were saddened to learn wouldn’t be returning, others we were indifferent about. Find out who these characters are below!

When Bridgerton premiered in 2020, tons of people tuned in to watch the period drama series and enjoyed it. They loved the fictional characters even more, specifically Simon/Duke of Hastings and Daphne Bridgerton (Regé-Jean Page and Phoebe Dynevor). Then, the second season premiered, and people fell in love with the romantic pairing of Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma (Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley).

While there doesn’t seem to be much buzz about Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington’s pairing (Luke Newton and Nicola Coughlan) at the moment, I’m sure everyone’s opinions will change once the third season comes out. Honestly, it seems like it’s hard not to love the characters in this show unless they’re antagonists. This is why it’s so hard to accept when a character leaves the series.

Now without further ado, here are four characters who left the Bridgerton world.

Bridgerton characters who left the show

Simon Basset/Duke of Hastings

Many people were shocked to find out Regé-Jean Page wouldn’t be reprising his role as Simon in future seasons of the period drama in April 2021. After appearing as one of the leads in the first season, Page exited the series. Apparently, the gifted actor was only contracted for one season, and this was the plan all along. However, fans had hoped he’d make a surprise appearance in season 2, even if for a brief moment, but this didn’t happen. The good news is that Simon could appear in a future season. But the bad news is that the character won’t be played by Regé-Jean Page.

Phoebe Dynevor - Bridgerton cast ages

Daphne Bridgerton

Brace yourself, Bridgerton fans. In January 2023, Phoebe Dynevor, who plays Daphne Bridgerton, revealed that she would not be in the upcoming third season. This was a huge surprise to many fans because she was believed to be returning for the new season. Dynevor broke the news at the Sundance Film Festival during an interview with Screenrant. However, Dynevor does let fans know there’s a possibility she could come back in future seasons. I mean, her character appears in several of the Bridgerton books, so she’s likely to come back.

Bridgerton season 2 - Miss Thompson

Marina

We’re not 100% sure that Marina (Ruby Barker) won’t be in future seasons of the period drama, but this is most likely the case. Her story pretty much wraps up in the second season. In the second season, Colin visits Marina in hopes of winning her back but discovers that she’s living an okay life for herself with twins. Their meeting ends with Marina telling Colin there’s no chance of them ever getting together. She also encourages him to find love with someone else. And Colin will find love with someone else: Penelope.

Jack Featherington

Jack Featherington (Rupert Young) is introduced in the second season of the period drama. Following the death of Lord Featherington, Jack becomes the heir to the Featherington estate and causes trouble for the family. This leads Portia Featherington to devise a plan to send him back to America with no money. Since Jack was sent far away, he most likely won’t appear in future seasons.

Francesca Bridgerton

Even though Francesca will continue to appear in Bridgerton, we thought we’d discuss how the original actress who played the character was recast. Ruby Stokes played Francesca in seasons 1 and 2, but she has been recast for future seasons. We don’t know for sure why Stokes left the series, but we know she had some scheduling conflicts when filming the second season. So, this could’ve played a part in her recasting. Now Anatomy of a Scandal actress Hannah Dodd has taken over the role of Francesca.
