Stranger Things is ending soon, and that doesn’t bother star David Harbour. In fact, he sounds quite eager to get on with it.

In a recent interview with Discussing Film, Harbour shared that he “never ever wanted” Stranger Things to end. But now, that the end is here, he and the rest of the cast and crew have “got to shoot this thing” because the cast, particularly the main stars, are not getting any younger.

David Harbour shares his thoughts on the end of Stranger Things

Over the years, Harbour has been the cast member fans have come to rely on for candid thoughts regarding the hit series. During the interview promoting his new Netflix movie, We Have a Ghost, Harbour was asked about the end of Stranger Things and gave a rather insightful answer that we’ve come to expect from the star.

Here’s what he told Discussing Film:

"What’s funny is when I started the show, I never ever wanted it to end. That’s why I love the show. I think it’s a great show, even if I wasn’t in it. Now we’re almost nine years from filming the first season, and I think it is time for it to end. But it is, of course, very bittersweet. You know, there’s a sadness there. But also, we’ve all grown up. It is time for us to leave that nest and try other things and different projects. And to let the Duffer Brothers try different things as well. I mean, those guys are so talented. I want to see what they come up with next. So it is bittersweet, but it’s definitely time."

It’s hard to picture a world without a new season of Stranger Things in the works, but that’s the sad reality fans will be facing following the release of Stranger Things season 5. And, even though it will be hard for fans to move on, I have to imagine it will be much harder for the cast to turn the page on this little-engine-that-could-type of a project that became the biggest show in the world almost a decade ago.

Fortunately, or maybe unfortunately for Harbour and the cast, we still have a long way to go until we really have to consider the scenario. Stranger Things season 5 is nowhere near finished. In fact, production on season 5 has not even started.

Noah Schnapp recently revealed that he’ll start shooting the season sometime after May of this year. Production is expected to get going this summer, but that has not been confirmed by Netflix.

Finn Wolfhard also revealed that he’ll be 22 years old or will be about 22 years old when season 5 is released on Netflix, which puts the release date somewhere around summer 2024 and 2025. Hopefully, it’s the former!

We’ll share more about the end of Stranger Things, which is on the list of the best shows on Netflix, when we find out. Stay tuned for more information about the final season.
