A new season of Outer Banks has finally arrived and the third season definitely takes a lot of big swings as the Pogues set out on their biggest adventure yet!

As the season begins, the Pogues are still marooned on the desert island which they’ve now affectionately dubbed Poguelandia. However, it doesn’t take long before John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope, JJ, and Cleo find themselves back in the Outer Banks where they once again get swept up in a race for a new treasure, one bigger than anything they’ve sought after before.

Warning, Outer Banks season 3 spoilers ahead.

Across the third season of Outer Banks, John B and the Pogues set their sights on finding the lost city of El Dorado, which is said to be a city of riches and gold. This quest to find El Dorado takes the Pogues down many unexpected paths and puts them in the crosshairs of some very dangerous men.

The quest leads to one of the most ambitious seasons of Outer Banks yet as the Pogues race to put the pieces of the puzzle together in hopes of finding the ultimate treasure. Its inclusion in the season’s central story is also likely to get fans talking, as it’s only natural to wonder whether the city of El Dorado is a real historical city or simply a work of fiction created for the show.

Is El Dorado real? (Or did Outer Banks make it up?)

El Dorado is a legendary city or kingdom that was believed to be located in the Americas, rich in gold and precious stones. Many explorers searched for this fabled city, including Sir Walter Raleigh and Francisco de Orellana, but it has never been found.

While some believe that El Dorado is simply a myth or a legend, others argue that there may be some truth to the story. Historical records suggest that the Muisca people, who lived in present-day Colombia, had a tradition of a ritual where their leader was covered in gold dust and then went to the middle of a sacred lake. It’s possible that this tradition gave rise to the legend of El Dorado.

Despite many expeditions and searches, no definitive evidence of the existence of El Dorado has been found. Nevertheless, the search for this mythical city continues to capture the imagination of people around the world. So there is no way for us to entirely rule out the city’s existence, however, we can confirm it’s not an entirely fictional city made up by the writers but rather rooted in real life lore.
