Unstable starring Rob Lowe release date, cast, synopsis, teaser, and more
A new comedy series titled Unstable will be coming to Netflix, and we’ve created a guide of all the important information about the show to share with you.
Unstable was first announced in April 2022 with Netflix revealing that it had greenlit a scripted comedy series created by Rob Lowe, his son John Owen Lowe, and Victor Fresco. It was inspired by Rob and John’s social media relationship. John is known for humorously trolling his dad on social media about some of his photos on Instagram, which would often go viral.
Netflix was proud to take on this series with the streamer saying, “We are very excited to be working with Victor, Rob and John Owen,” Netflix Head of Comedy Tracey Pakosta said in a statement. “The three of them — and their wildly funny, smart sensibilities — are a perfect fit for our growing slate of scripted comedies.”
The Lowes, Fresco, and Marc Buckland are executive producing, and the series from that excellent team finally has a release date and a teaser to share. Continue reading to find out everything else you need to know about Unstable!

When the comedy series was greenlit, only Rob Lowe and John Owen Lowe were announced to be starring in the series. They will play the show’s main characters and share a father and son relationship.
Back in June 2022, Netflix announced seven new cast members and you might recognize some of them.

- Rob Lowe as Ellis Dragon – The CEO of a successful biotech company.
- John Owen Lowe as Jackson Dragon – A socially challenged young man who goes to work for his father, Ellis.
- Sian Clifford as Anna Bennet – The CFO of Ellis’s company. She’s strong, opinionated, and very loyal to her boss, Ellis.
- Rachel Marsh as Luna Castillo – A shy and awkward biotech engineer who enjoys working with her friend and research partner, Ruby.
- Emma Ferreira as Ruby Rosario – An outgoing and friendly biotech genius.
- Aaron Branch as Malcolm Drummond – Malcolm is a longtime friend of Jackson and the project manager for the game-changing venture the biotech company has been working on.
- Fred Armisen as Leslie – Leslie is Ellis’s board-appointed therapist.
- Tom Allen as TJ and JT Parr as Chaz – They are not very bright brothers and Ellis’s enemies. TJ and Chaz only got their board positions because their wealthy father helped fund Ellis’s company.
Unstable synopsis
Along with the release date and teaser announcement, Netflix also revealed the official synopsis for the comedy series. As previously mentioned, it’s a case of art imitating life for the on and of-screen father-son duo. Take a look at what to expect from the upcoming comedy series:
"Ellis Dragon is a universally admired, eccentric, narcissist-adjacent biotech entrepreneur working to make the world a better place. He’s also in emotional free-fall. His son Jackson Dragon is… none of those things. Can Jackson save Ellis and his company and salvage their estranged relationship while also doing what may actually be impossible: escaping the shadow of his larger-than-life father?"
