Set sail with tenacious Australian teenager Jessica Walton in the inspirational new film True Spirit or catch up with the latest Minion shenanigans with Minions: The Rise of Gru, there are plenty of Netflix movies available to watch this weekend that will appeal to people of all ages!

Currently, the most popular Netflix movies are mostly family-oriented, with hit animated features like the new Minions movie, The Bad Guys, and Trolls dominating Netflix’s Top 10 chart. Which ones should you prioritize?

Below we’ve highlighted three Netflix movies you should consider watching this weekend and two you can skip if you’re pressed for time.

Best Netflix movies to watch (or skip) this weekend

Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile

Watch! This sweet and charming musical comedy film is the perfect selection for a family movie night this weekend. Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile follows the Primm family to their new house in New York, where they discover a lovable singing crocodile and make him part of the family. The movie will start streaming on Saturday, Feb. 4.

Infiesto

Skip! Infiesto is a dark new Spanish thriller following two detectives trying to solve a string of abductions that might be part of a larger, more sinister plan. This movie sounds great on paper, but the only thing that makes me hesitant is its inclusion of the coronavirus pandemic. If you’d rather watch something that doesn’t mention the pandemic, you’ll want to skip this one.

True Spirit

Watch! Starring Titans actress Teagan Croft, True Spirit is an inspiring film based on the true story of Australian sailor Jessica Watson. At just 16, Watson became one of the youngest people ever to sail solo around the world, unassisted. Anna Paquin also stars.

The Price of Family

Skip! You might have noticed the Italian comedy film The Price of Family on Netflix’s Top 10 chart this week, but you’re better off skipping this movie filled with more unlikeable characters than laughs. There are plenty of better comedies on Netflix.

Minions: The Rise of Gru

Watch! This hilarious animated comedy is the fifth overall movie in the Despicable Me franchise and the official sequel to the Minions movie. It’s also one of the most positively reviewed films in the series in a while, so it’s another great pick to watch with your kids if you didn’t get the chance to see it in theaters!
