Congratulations are in order for the Irish-language film The Quiet Girl because it just scored a nomination for Best International Feature Film at the 95th Academy Awards. In fact, with its nomination, it has become the first Irish movie to be nominated in this category’s history! What an impressive feat.

The Quiet Girl is a drama film written and directed by Colm Bairéad. Additionally, it’s based on the short story Foster by Claire Keegan. It’s set in rural Ireland in 1981 and follows a nine-year-old girl who is sent away from her dysfunctional family to live with her mother’s cousin and her husband for the summer. There, she experiences freedom and a loving home for the first time. However, the young girl soon learns of one painful truth plaguing her foster parents.

The talented cast comprises Carrie Crowley, Andrew Bennett, Catherine Clinch, Michael Patric, and Kate Nic Chonaonaigh.

Since The Quiet Girl has been nominated for an Oscar, you might want to check it out for yourself. But is it streaming on Netflix? Here’s what we know.

Is The Quiet Girl on Netflix?

Sadly, this movie is not streaming on Netflix. However, there is a possibility that the streaming giant could acquire licensing rights to the film in the future. We’ll just have to wait and see. In the meantime, you could always check out Netflix’s long catalog of drama films. I’m sure you’ll find something of interest.

Where to watch The Quiet Girl

The Quiet Girl had a brief release in select theaters in California and New York starting on Dec. 16, 2022. Now screenings are becoming available in different places across the U.S. such as Chicago, Illinois, New York, New York, San Francisco, California, and West Hollywood, California. However, the most screenings will be available in March 2023.

Unfortunately, this movie can’t be streamed anywhere at the moment. However, there’s a chance that it will eventually make its way to Hulu. Why? Well, Super LTD is the distributor, and it is a subsidiary of Neon. Neon has an output deal with Hulu, where many of its films go to the streamer after they’re released in theaters. But keep in mind that this isn’t set in stone.

The good news is that it will most likely be available to buy or rent on VOD services in the near future, so that’s something to look forward to.
