The Oscar nominations for 2023 are finally here, and there are so many amazing films vying for top honors. Everything Everywhere All at Once leads the pack with 11 total nominations, but Netflix put up a fight of its own with All Quiet on the Western Front’s nine noms.

While the German war film landed an impressive list of nominations, including recognitions in the coveted and highly competitive Best Picture category, Netflix also has the bragging rights of 16 total Oscar nominations in 2023 for its films and documentaries.

Some of the biggest Netflix movies from the past year, like Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery and Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, landed nominations in a few of the biggest categories. Did your favorite Netflix movie make the cut? Check out all of the streamers nominations in 2023!

All Quiet on the Western Front leads Netflix Oscar nominations

All Quiet on the Western Front nabbed the most Oscar nominations for Netflix, brining the film’s total to nine nominations. Even though the acting performances weren’t recognized, the film itself and its technical aspects were shown lots of love.

Here are all nine of the film’s Oscar nominations:

  • Best Picture: Malte Grunert, Producer
  • Best International Feature Film: Germany
  • Best Adapted Screenplay: Edward Berger, Lesley Paterson & Ian Stokell
  • Best Cinematography: James Friend
  • Best Sound Design: Viktor Prášil, Frank Kruse, Markus Stemler, Lars Ginzel and Stefan Korte
  • Best Original Score: Volker Bertelmann
  • Best Makeup and Hairstyling: Heike Merker and Linda Eisenhamerová
  • Best Production Design: Production Design: Christian M. Goldbeck; Set Decoration: Ernestine Hipper
  • Best Visual Effects: Frank Petzold, Viktor Muller, Markus Frank, and Kamil Jaffar

Netflix Oscar nominations 2023

Aside from All Quiet on the Western Front’s surprising but deserved nomination sweep, Netflix movies all represented in other categories. Rian Johnson’s writing for Glass Onion was recognized, after the first film landed the same nomination. The streamer also landed double nominations in the Best Animated Feature category, while a controversial film’s leading star was also honored.

Beyond Netflix’s popular movies grabbing nominations, a pair of its documentaries received recognition. If you haven’t watched these documentaries, or any of the nominated films, you’re definitely going to want to add them to your watch list before the 95th Academy Awards ceremony airs in March.
