Kurtwood Smith

Kurtwood Smith is best known for threatening to put his foot in everyone’s ass as Red Forman on That ’70s Show. As Laurie and Eric’s dad, he did have his work cut out for him, but he had absolutely no patience at all. Of course, he never wanted to take Steven in at first but had a habit of giving into Kitty now and then.

He was a stereotypical Navy veteran who had seen his fair share of war and darkness. The events from World War II certainly led to his attitude and gruff nature, but he likely always had that dry sense of humor that was just hilarious as long as it wasn’t aimed at you.

Since leaving the series (he was there for all 200 episodes like the rest of the cast so far), Kurtwood hasn’t had a year off-screen. Starting off with smaller roles, he returned back to recurring or series regular roles in later years. You will have definitely seen him on your TV screens at some point since 2006.

He recurred as FBI Agent Edward Cooper in Medium for a handful of episodes, before moving onto the role of Senator Blaine Mayer in 24. He has also been in The Worst Week, Neighbors from Hell, and Hitched just to name a few TV shows and movies.

Most recently, you’ll have seen him in Resurrection for a season, as Henry Langsten, and in seven episodes of Agent Carter. In terms of movies, he’s been in Amityville: The Awakening, Hitcock, and Firestarter. Smith also had a recurring role on The Ranch and The Dropout.

If you haven’t seen him physically, you’ve likely heard him. He does a lot of voice work, including for Pig Goat Banana Cricket, one episode of Rick and MortyRegular Show, Netflix’s F Is for Family, and more animated series. But you’ll see him again as grumpy but oddly lovable father and grandfather Red Forman in That ’90s Show.
