Is Trial by Fire on Netflix based on a true story?

The seven-episode series is based on a true story. In June 1997, there was a fire at the Uphaar Cinema in South Delhi during the 3 p.m. screening of the movie Border. Fifty-nine people died, including Neelam and Shekhar’s two kids, and around 100 were injured. An investigation revealed the building had several fire code violations.

According to India Times, it took over 20 years for the parents and the rest of the families of the victims to get justice. Following a years-long legal battle, the real estate agents who owned the local theater were sentenced to seven years in prison in November 2021.

Trial By Fire is now streaming on Netflix. Add the series to your watchlist now.
