Ginny must continue to contend with her AP English teacher Mr. Gitten’s racism and persistent microaggressions in Ginny & Georgia season 2. Part of that stems from an assignment where Gitten asks Ginny to pick a book by a Black author to help diversify their curriculum, and then even going so far as to tell Ginny to make a lesson plan and lead the class discussion, you know, essentially doing his job for him.

Mild spoilers ahead for Ginny & Georgia season 2

After discussing her options with her father, Zion, Ginny decides to pick the book, but when it comes time to build a lesson plan and start the discussion, she takes a stand against her teacher and calls him out for forcing her to do it and essentially assigning her extra assignments just to have her voice heard. The book Ginny selects is Sister Outsider by Audre Lord.

Is Sister Outsider from Ginny & Georgia season 2 a real book?

Considering Ginny & Georgia is a show that loves its pop culture references, it would be strange if the show included a book that wasn’t real (although the same cannot be said for its musicals).

Sister Outsider: Essays and Speeches is exactly as Ginny describes in the show. It’s a collection of powerful essays and speeches written by Audre Lorde and is considered to be one of Lorde’s most important and influential works. The pieces included in the book relate to Lorde’s identity as a Black lesbian woman, feminist, mother, cancer survivor, poet, and more.

Is Wellington a real musical?

Even though the songs are super catchy and the costumes look great (thanks, Silver!), the Bridgerton-esque Wellington is, unfortunately, not a real musical. It’s a fictional one created for the show, meaning the songs featured are also original creations for Ginny & Georgia. That’s not surprising since Ginny & Georgia created another fake musical, Sing Sing, in its first season.
