Does Marcus suffer from depression in Ginny and Georgia season 2?
We’ve already binge-watched all of Ginny and Georgia season 2, and so much happens in the latest season. As expected, Ginny and Georgia have a lot to deal with this season, but they’re not the only ones. Marcus Baker (Felix Mallard) has his own set of problems that he has to work through, and one of those problems causes him to push the people he loves away.
Spoilers ahead for Ginny and Georgia season 2.
At the beginning of season 2, Marcus acts like his usual brooding self. However, when he and Ginny finally get together in episode 4, they appear happier than ever. They even come up with pet names for each other. But things take a turn for the worse when Marcus returns home from visiting his grandparents in Vermont.
Max tells Ginny that Marcus didn’t come out of his room during the entire visit. He even skips school on the first day back from vacation and turns down movie night with his family to stay in his room and sleep. Additionally, he starts to skip class consistently and gets drunk all the time. It becomes really obvious that something is wrong with Marcus when he tells Max that Ginny shouldn’t like him. It didn’t make sense for him to say this when he and Ginny were doing so well. He had finally got the girl.
Marcus also starts to have severe mood swings. One moment he’s in high spirits, and the next moment he’s down in the dumps. Marcus has always been unpredictable, but this is something else entirely. So, what is actually going on with Marcus in Ginny and Georgia season 2? Is he suffering from depression? We answered these questions below.
Does Marcus suffer from depression in Ginny and Georgia season 2?
Sadly, Marcus does suffer from depression. We learn this at the beginning of episode 8 through Marcus’s voiceover. Marcus explains how it feels to be depressed and how dark it can get when going through an episode. Based on Marcus’s voiceover, he’s been suffering from depression for a while. This is later confirmed when Max tells Ginny that Marcus goes through periods where he becomes depressed. She even mentions that their parents will be putting Marcus back on medication for his depression.
Marcus had never been in love with anyone until he met Ginny. He believes the only person that truly gets him and makes him happy is Ginny. But he realizes that this is a problem. He tells Max that no one person should be responsible for his happiness. So, he makes the decision to end things with Ginny so that he doesn’t continue to hurt her and hold her back.
Although it was sad to see Ginny and Marcus break up, it was the best thing to do for their relationship at the moment. Marcus isn’t in the right headspace to be with anyone. He needs to work on himself and find inner happiness before he gets back into a relationship.
Hopefully, we get a Ginny and Georgia season 3 because I would like to see how Marcus’s mental health improves and if he will get back together with Ginny.
Ginny and Georgia season 2 is streaming now only on Netflix.
