Bridgerton‘s ruling monarch is certainly a force to be reckoned with! Queen Charlotte, played by Golda Rosheuvel, is one of the best characters on the historical-romance series. She also has an interesting backstory that we haven’t gotten much of.
Well, that’s going to change since we know a spinoff is in the works! Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story will give us the story of how a young Charlotte found herself in power, the queen and her King George’s great love story, and the “societal shift” their union created, per the Netflix synopsis.
It’s also going to be so fun to see the “younger” versions of some of the best ladies in the series! India Ria Amartefio will take on the role of the titular character, with Rosheuvel playing her current role in the prequel. We’ll also of course meet a Young King George, played by actor Corey Mylchreest.
The lovely and quick-witted faves, Lady Danbury and Lady Violet, will also be a part of the new series. Arsema Thomas will play Young Agatha (Lady) Danbury, with Adjoa Andoh as Lady Danbury. Connie Jenkins-Greig will play Young Violet before she becomes a Bridgerton, and her older counterpart who we all know, Ruth Gemmell as Lady Violet Bridgerton, will continue in her role.
Unfortunately the exciting sequel won’t be added to the Netflix catalog this month. So when can we expect to see it?
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story release date predictions
The Shonda Rhimes-led series doesn’t have an exact release date yet. At Netflix’s 2022 TUDUM event, the streamer only confirmed the show would be coming sometime in 2023. But they didn’t really narrow it down to a specific point of time. What’s On Netflix reports a May 4, 2023 release date could be possible. But we haven’t gotten any official confirmation to indicate this to be true.
It’s hard to say when we could possibly see it. Bridgerton season 3 is also in the works and fans are absolutely eager to be taken back into the Regency-era setting. It will be interesting to see whether Netflix chooses to space the two shows out, or if the streaming service releases both relatively close to each other. The waiting game continues, but we know it’s going to be worth it!
