Where was Glass Onion filmed? (Where does Glass Onion take place?)
One of the most highly anticipated movies of 2022, Glass Onion, a sequel to the 2019 smash hit murder mystery Knives Out, was released on Netflix on Nov. 23, 2022. The new movie swapped out the dreary New England setting of the original for some fabulous sweeping shots of a sun-drenched Greek island surrounded by crystal blue waters, making for a particularly popular viewing experience during gloomy and cold times of winter.
Despite the film’s array of famous faces, including Daniel Craig’s reprisal of world-famous detective Benoit Blanc, we think we can all agree that the real star of the movie was its location.
Invited to a private island for a murder mystery by billionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton), a group of friends and detective Benoit Blanc find themselves surrounded by extreme luxury as they stay in the lavish villa dubbed the Glass Onion. With many twists, turns, and unexpected surprises, this murder mystery is filmed in an array of locations. Find out where the movie was filmed, and if you can visit any of the locations, below!
Where was Glass Onion filmed?
Glass Onion swaps out the Cluedo-Esque mansion in Massachusetts, USA from the first film for ultimate luxury in Europe. The sequel to Knives Out takes place on a fictional Greek island called Pisceshite Island. Though the isle may be fictional, some of the locations featured in the film you will be able to visit on your next trip to Greece.
Filming took place in Spetses, a Greek island in the Peloponnese, and the port of Dapia on the northeast shore of Spetses.
According to Time Out, a real-life luxury hotel and resort in Kranidi, Greece, called Amanzoe, transformed into the Glass Onion villa. You can stay at the resort, but make no mistake, Amanzoe is a pretty exclusive place to stay and will set you back anywhere between $2000 and $4000 just for the night.
Other locations used to film Glass Onion, such as the inside bits of the hotel, as well as indoor places supposed to be in New York or the northeast USA, were built in the Serbian capital of Belgrade, according to Metro.
