Knives Out 3 release updates: Will there be another sequel after Glass Onion?

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery has been a monster of a hit for Netflix. The Knives Out sequel has grossed $15 million from its limited theatrical release, garnered widespread positive reception from critics and fans alike, and topped the the Netflix top 10 charts.

Daniel Craig reprised his role as world-renown detective Benoit Blanc as he finds himself wrapped up in the middle of billionaire Miles Bron’s (Edward Norton) murder mystery game in the Glass Onion house on a private island in Greece.

The sequel also stars Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline, Dave Bautista, and Kate Hudson as the rest of the crew playing Bron’s twisted game. You’ll never see the twists, turns, and truths coming in the incredible sequel.

But will there be more Benoit Blanc in the future? Could we see any Glass Onion cast members back in additional movies? When could another sequel make its way to Netflix? Here’s everything to know so far about the next Knives Out mystery.

Will there be a Knives Out 3 on Netflix?

Yes! In March 2021, Netflix signed a nearly $500 million deal for two Knives Out sequels. The Glass Onion cast signed on by May 2021 and filming began in Greece between June and September 2021. We still have the second sequel in that deal to look forward to.

While promoting Glass Onion in November 2022, Johnson and Craig each spoke out their openness to continue with Knives Out films beyond the two Netflix ordered. Based on the huge success of Glass Onion, it seems like more sequels could definitely be in the cards with Craig returning as Blanc again for more mysteries.

Knives Out 3 release updates

Unlike other film franchises, Knives Out 3 doesn’t already have a release date locked down on Netflix. Johnson spoke about the third film while promoting Glass Onion and shared that while his Netflix deal allowed for him to work on a different film after Glass Onion, he’s already working on the second sequel.

By the sounds of it, Johnson will start fleshing out the story and writing Knives Out 3 in the beginning of 2023. If the writer-director finds quick inspiration, we could see the third installment in production by mid or late-2023 for an ultimate release in 2024. However, these are merely predictions and the film could be pushed to a later release date.
