Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical will hit Netflix on Dec. 25, giving audiences a Christmas filled with catchy songs and epic dance numbers. The movie is an adaptation of the 2010 stage play with the same name and is also based on the 1988 novel Matilda by the iconic Roald Dahl.

Matilda (Alisha Weir) is an intelligent girl who loves to learn and has a creative mind. Her home life leaves more to be desired, as her parents are unkind and show little interest in her. Matilda forms some great connections at her new school, but that is overshadowed by the mean-spirited headmistress Miss Trunchbull (Emma Thompson), and Matilda wants to teach her a lesson.

Alisha Weir stars in the title role of Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical, which is a remarkable achievement at 13. Before her breakthrough performance in this Matilda iteration, she appeared in the 2019 television series Darklands, and the 2018 horror film Don’t Leave Home.

Emma Thompson as Miss Trunchbull

Emma Thompson plays the menacing Miss Trunchbull, and the casting couldn’t be more perfect. Thompson’s career spans decades and has given viewers a variety of characters, with 95 acting credits on IMDb to date. Some of her films include Sense and Sensibility, Love Actually, Saving Mr. Banks, Nanny McPhee, Beauty and the Beast, Good Luck to You, Leo Grande, and the Harry Potter franchise.

Lashana Lynch as Miss Honey

Lashana Lynch is an actress who has some impressive roles to her name. She played Nomi, the newly assigned 007, alongside Daniel Craig in 2021’s No Time To Die and also starred as Maria Rambeau in the 2019 film Captain Marvel. She plays the kind-hearted Miss Honey in Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical.

Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough star as Matilda’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood, and they certainly look the part. Graham’s breakout role was portraying Tommy in the 2000 film Snatch. He has since starred in the 2019 biographical film Rocketman and two popular television series, Boardwalk Empire and Peaky Blinders. Andrea Riseborough is a producer and actress. Sindhu Vee is a standup comedian and actress. She has starred in various television series such as Sex Education, Feel Good, and Starstruck. Vee plays Mrs. Phelps in Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical, Crunchem Hall’s compassionate librarian.
