We’re still not over the fact that we’ll be missing a new season of Sex Education in 2022, but we’ve been keeping ourselves occupied by staying up to date with everything concerning the upcoming fourth season.

As of Dec. 14, principal photography on the fourth season is still in progress, with a rumored wrap date sometime in March 2023. We also know who will be reprising their roles in the new season and some of the actors who have taken their exit.

Asa Butterfield (Otis), Gillian Anderson (Jean), Ncuti Gatwa (Eric), Aimee-Lou Wood (Aimee), Emma Mackey (Maeve), Connor Swindells (Adam), Kedar Williams-Stirling (Jackson), Mimi Keene (Ruby), George Robinson (Isaac), Chinenye Ezeudu (Vivienne), Dua Saleh (Cal), Alistair Petrie (Michael), and Samantha Spiro (Maureen) are all confirmed to return in the fourth season. There are also new cast additions, such as Dan Levy playing Mr. Molloy, Maeve’s tutor, Thaddea Graham, Marie Reuther, Felix Mufti, Anthony Lexa, Alexandra James, and Imani Yahshua.

But who will not be coming back for Sex Education season 4? Find out below!

Is Olivia in Sex Education season 4?

Unfortunately, Simone Ashley will not be returning in her role as Olivia Hanan in the teen series. Back in April 2022, she announced her departure from the popular Netflix show on the British talk show This Morning. When asked if she’s going to be in the fourth season, she replied, “I get asked that all the time. No, I’m a Bridgerton girl now.” This was sad news for fans of Sex Education, but at least we know we haven’t seen the last of Simone. She’ll just be on another popular Netflix series.

Is Ola in Sex Education season 4?

Patricia Allison, who portrays Ola, was the second cast member to announce her departure from Sex Education. During an interview on the British radio show Breakfast with Yinka and Shayna Marie in July 2022, Patricia revealed that she wouldn’t be in the fourth season because she’s working on other projects. It’ll be interesting to see how the writers will address Ola’s absence, but I’m excited to see Patricia take on new roles.

Is Lily in Sex Education season 4?

Only a week after Patricia Allison’s exit, Tanya Reynolds joined her onscreen love interest in leaving the series. According to multiple sources, the decision to let Tanya go was made months before the announcement. Apparently, the creators wanted to shake things up as part of a “creative reset” for the series. Tanya spoke with RadioTimes and said this about her departure, “It’s just the natural progression of these shows – when you have such big ensemble casts and so many characters, I think you have to let a few older characters go to make way for newer ones, which is absolutely the right thing, the way it should happen.”

Is Emily in Sex Education season 4?

The fourth cast member to announce their exit was Rakhee Thakrar, who plays Emily Sands, an English teacher at Moordale Secondary School. Honestly, her exit was the least shocking because of how things ended in the season 3 finale. If you recall, season 3 ends with Moordale Secondary School shutting down because investors pulled the funding for the school. Now, the students have to look elsewhere to finish their education. So if the school is closed, Emily no longer has a job, which means her story is finished.
