We’re all waiting for the best period drama on Netflix to make its return. But, of course, we’re talking about Bridgertonand we can’t help but get excited for the third season’s expected release in 2023. While waiting, we have started to think about all who we can expect to see in the new season. But unfortunately, there are also some characters we’ll probably not see make an appearance in Bridgerton season 3. Who are they? Find out right below.

Since the third season will focus primarily on Colin and Penelope’s love story, we can obviously expect Luke Newton and Nicola Coughlan to reprise their roles. Luckily, they were already confirmed to return earlier on.

More cast members who have been confirmed to return are Jonathan Bailey (Anthony), Claudia Jessie (Eloise), Luke Thompson (Benedict), Ruth Gemmel (Lady Violet Bridgerton), Adjoa Andoh (Lady Agatha Danbury), Golda Rosheuvel (Queen Charlotte), and Simone Ashley (Kate). Ruby Stokes, who played Francesca Bridgerton, exited the series after the second season and has been replaced by Hannah Dodd for season 3 and on.

Now which characters will probably not appear in the upcoming third season? Here’s what we know.

Spoilers ahead from Bridgerton season 2.

Simon Basset - Bridgerton

Is the Duke of Hastings in Bridgerton season 3?

As much as we would’ve liked to see Regé-Jean Page reprise his role as the charming Simon Basset/Duke of Hastings in the third season, it’s just not happening. This shouldn’t be surprising because he wasn’t in the second season, either. However, we had hoped he’d return for the third season in some capacity.

Page broke the news of him not returning through an Instagram post of him and Jonathan Bailey at Milan Fashion Week. Since Page and Bailey were hanging out, people immediately started speculating that this meant Page would be coming back to the period drama. However, Page shut down those rumors in the caption of the post. The caption reads, “The boys are back in town. (No, I’m not going back to the show btw – the papers made that one up.) But we had the best, and most stylish, catch up I’ve had in a while over some truly excellent Italian coffee and sunshine.”

Is Edwina in Bridgerton season 3?

Although Kate is confirmed to be in the third season, it looks like the other Sharma sister will not. When the second season premiered, Charithra Chandran (Edwina) told Entertainment Weekly that she’d be open to coming back for the third season, but she hadn’t heard anything back from the creative team. That was good news for fans. But in August 2022, Chandran told The Indian Express that she wasn’t on set for the third season and instead was working on another project. This confirmed her exit from the series. However, this doesn’t mean that she won’t return in a future season, just not the upcoming third season.

Bridgerton season 2 - Miss Thompson

Is Marina in Bridgerton season 3?

Marina, played by Ruby Barker, will probably not be in Bridgerton season 3. Why? First, the character wasn’t announced to be coming back for the third season. Secondly, Marina already didn’t have much screen time in season 2. She was only in one episode, and it looks like she was used as a storyline for Colin so that he could get some closure and move on from her. Her story pretty much wrapped up last season. In fact, she’s barely mentioned in the book series, so there really isn’t a need to bring her back.

Is Theo in Bridgerton season 3?

Theo, portrayed by Calam Lynch, is another character that probably won’t return in the third season. He was Eloise’s short-lived love interest in season 2. Their relationship is cut short when Penelope tells Eloise that there’s gossip around town about her meeting with a man from the lower class. However, Penelope lies to Eloise so that she can get her to stop trying to reveal Lady Whistledown’s identity. Eloise meets up with Theo, and they share an intimate moment before they break things off. We never see Theo again in the second season.

While the actor is open to returning for the third season, it doesn’t look like it will actually happen. He wasn’t confirmed to be coming back. Also, his character and Eloise seem to break things off for good in season 2. However, we do think there’s a possibility he’ll return in the season centered around Eloise’s love story. He could be the guy she ends up with. The ton will be mad since he’s of the lower class, but Eloise is basically a non-conformist, so I can see it happening. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Is Daphne in Bridgerton season 3?

Unfortunately, Phoebe Dyvenor will not reprise her role as Daphne in Bridgerton season 3. Initially, we had thought she would return, but the stunning actress announced her exit back in January 2023. At the Sundance Film Festival, Screenrant got the opportunity to interview Phoebe and she revealed that she would not be in the upcoming third season. However, she did give fans hope by saying she could return in a future season.

Is Jack Featherington in Bridgerton season 3?

Jack will most likely not come back for the third season. Following the death of Lord Featherington, Jack becomes the heir to the Featherington estate and has his own hidden agenda. While at first, it seems like Jack is increasing the wealth of the estate, he later confesses to Lady Featherington that he’s actually broke.

This leads him and Lady Featherington to come up with a devious plan to steal the investments of the wealthy men of the ton. But things quickly go left after Colin Bridgerton realizes what’s going on. Jack tries to flee London and go back to America with the money and Lady Featherington, but Lady Featherington double-crosses him.

Realizing that Jack doesn’t care for her or her daughters, Lady Featherington has the maids pack Jack’s things and send him back to America penniless. And to make sure he can’t come back, she makes up a lie that is sent to the entire ton stating that Jack is the person who came up with the plan and that she was just a victim.
