As if Firefly Lane season 2 part 1 wasn’t heartbreaking enough, the flash-forward teased by a clip for the second part of the second and final season contained another potentially significant twist.

Spoilers ahead for Firefly Lane season 2

The end of Firefly Lane season 2 part 1 ends with Kate learning the devastating news that she has inflammatory breast cancer, an aggressive form of cancer that needs to be treated immediately.

Then, if you stick around after the credits, Netflix will autoplay a one-minute clip from the next chunk of episodes that shows Johnny at a wedding and Tully getting ready in a dressing room. The clip seems to indicate that Tully and Johnny will marry, likely after Kate dies.

The clip also gives fans an exact release date for the final batch of episodes, which will premiere on June 8, 2023.

Do Tully and Johnny get married in the Firefly Lane books?

No, Tully and Johnny do not get married in the books.

Will Tully and Johnny get married in Firefly Lane season 2 part 2?

Despite what the teaser would have you believe, I think the clip is meant to be a bait-and-switch. It is clearly set up in a way that implies Tully and Johnny are getting married ten years into the future, but that doesn’t really make any sense. It also doesn’t make sense for Johnny and Kate to wait ten years. If Kate gets cancer treatment and recovers, it still won’t take ten years, and if she dies, I’m assuming she’ll die sooner than later, so what’s really going on?

Based on the two clips we get, I think the real “bride” in question is Kate and Johnny’s daughter, Marah. In ten years, Marah will be in her late 20s, and if she marries a woman, it will be legal then. The show left off in 2005, and gay marriage was legalized in June 2015, so the ten-year time skip would work. Firefly Lane hasn’t labeled her sexuality yet, so she might not be marrying a woman, but it’s definitely a possibility.

Plus, if it is Marah’s wedding, we can assume that Tully is officiating it or she’s the maid of honor (Kate has likely passed by this point), which would make her comment about how they “can’t start without her” make sense.

If you want to watch and analyze the 60-second clip yourself, you can check it out on the Firefly Lane Netflix page. You’ll need to go to the “Trailers & More” section and select the “There’s More to Come” clip.
