The Pinocchio story is getting another adaptation, and this time it’s Academy Award winner Guillermo del Toro who is spearheading the project. Just knowing that the movie is directed by him, we know it’s going to be good! Be sure to check out Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio on Netflix.

Mark Gustafson co-directed alongside del Toro, who also co-wrote the script and some of the songs. Patrick McHale also penned the screenplay. Lisa Henson, Gary Ungar, Alex Bulkley, and Corey Campodonico served as producers. Composer, songwriter, and music producer Alexandre Desplat lent his musical skills for the production.

The stop-motion animated musical feature is set to release Friday, Dec. 9 on both Netflix and in select theaters. The graphics certainly look great on this film. It will be much more appreciated on the big screen if you get a chance to go watch it at your local theater.

What is Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio about?

The story follows the “extraordinary journey” of Pinocchio, a wooden boy who is magically brought to life after his father, Geppetto, made a wish, Netflix shares. Though this tale deals with some darker themes, with the story set in fascist society during Mussolini’s time as prime minister of Italy.

The magical boy will go on an “enchanted adventure” where he will travel worlds, learn about the “life-giving” power of love, all while struggling to live up to his father’s expectations, according to Netflix.

Gregory Mann stars as the titular character, while David Bradley takes on the role of Master Geppetto and Ewan McGregor is everyone’s favorite Cricket, or Sebastian J. Cricket in this movie.

The film also stars Ron Perlman as Podesta, Tilda Swinton as Wood Sprite and Death, Christoph Waltz as Count Volpe, Cate Blanchett as Spazzatura, Tim Blake Nelson as Black Rabbits, Finn Wolfhard as Candlewick, John Turturro as Doctore, and Burn Gorman as Priest.

Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio will begin streaming Friday, Dec. 9 on Netflix.
