Ahead of the series premiere of Wednesdaythere were a lot of questions among audiences regarding just how dark Tim Burton’s adaptation would be — especially after watching the first trailer for the show.

While the series definitely had darker tones, it struck a balance that allowed the show to lean into dark themes without becoming a show that was too mature for younger audiences. However, it seems the actress behind the show’s title character is hoping the writers might push the envelope a bit further in season 2 to make Wednesday even darker.

In a new interview with Entertainment Weeklystar Jenna Ortega revealed that the one thing she hopes to see for Wednesday in a potential second season is for her to take a darker tone. More specifically, she’s hoping to see her continue down the path of becoming the antihero she is.

"“I kind of want her to be darker. I want her to get more in the nitty-gritty of things and not play things so safe, because there are a lot of lines about her saving the school and doing whatever, but for me, her main drive with the monster is of competitiveness. Kind of, ‘Man, how’s this guy doing this?’ I think I want it to continue down an antihero stream rather than a typical hero.”"

We definitely can see where Ortega is coming from and have to confess we’d love to see her given the chance to explore those darker sides of Wednesday even more in a potential second season. Luckily, we should get that opportunity following the show’s success — it’s more of a matter of when we might see Wednesday Addams again, rather than if we’ll get to see more of the character.

When could Wednesday season 2 arrive on Netflix?

Given how successful the debut season of Netflix’s Tim Burton Addams family drama has been, we’d be shocked if Netflix didn’t bet big on the show and order additional seasons. Should a second season be streamlined, it’s possible filming could begin in 2023 and we couldn’t rule out a possible late 2023 release date for Wednesday season 2.

However, it’s also possible we could see a longer break between seasons given the number of effects that go into the show and the busy schedule of some of the show’s key players. Netflix has managed to turn around new seasons of some bigger effects-heavy shows in the past such as how it released new seasons of The Umbrella Academy almost annually before the pandemic delayed filming.

With how successful the show is, we can’t imagine Netflix will sit on its hands for long so here’s hoping a second season will be coming sooner rather than later. In the meantime, we’ll just keep watching season 1 on a loop!
